The colon is a very long, tube-shaped organ consisting of large intestine, rectum and anus that carries food from the small intestine to the rectum. It starts on the lower right-hand side of the abdomen. Since it is very long, it is folded many times to fit it in your abdomen. Its job is to absorb water, nutrients and chemicals from the digested food your body needs and discard the leftover as solid waste called stool or feces or bowel movement. The stool moves through the colon to the rectum and leaves the body through the anus.
The process of digestion, starting with ingestion and ending with defecation, normally takes up to 24 hours provided that the colon is fully functional, healthy and non-toxic. Irregular bowel movements can produce toxic by-products from undigested food or uneliminated waste and can remain in the colon. We need to remove these toxins that are trapped in our body before we can truly begin to call ourselves healthy. The removal of toxins from our bodies is the precursor to avoiding sudden symptoms of diseases and emergencies.
Constipation, diarrhea, weight gain or weight loss, parasites, gas, bloating, stomach ache, chronic fatigue, digestive problem, chronic cold and chronic headache are all signs of a toxic colon that needs cleansing.
In order to keep good colon health and hygiene, in general, you should cleanse your colon about four times a year. However, someone who is very healthy may need less frequent colon cleansing, perhaps once a year, than someone who has a very poor diet and unhealthy lifestyle.
Your diet is the most important colon cleanser. Avoid fried foods, most fast foods, sodas, candy, artificial sweeteners, processed meats such as luncheon meats, hot dogs and bacon; they are packed with a large amount of chemicals and preservatives.
Fasting helps detoxification. This is a traditional practice in India and particularly a very common practice in the Jain religion where people fast for one day and drink only water or live on a light, reduced diet for several days. This helps flush bad stuff out of your system.
However, it is almost impossible to maintain a perfectly healthy diet or fast for a day or more in today’s working environment. Thus we are all exposed to thousands of toxins and chemicals daily at home, at work, through the food we eat, the water we drink and air we breathe, as well as through the use of pharmaceutical drugs to cure symptoms we suffer from.
Another method of detoxification is to take an enema, which may not be that convenient. Then there are herbal and natural supplement remedyies. In such a remedy, look for such names as detoxification, detoxifier, detox, detoxification factors, detox formula, colon cleanse, colon detoxifier and so on.
There are a number of natural detoxifiers in addition to nutritional vitamins and herbal supplements for your health needs. Natural health supplements promote holistic health of the mind, body, and spirit and to promote a vibrant and long life.
