Heartburn is one of the most common problems in the United States and the world. Did you know that there are some very effective natural heartburn treatments?

The burning sensation around your heart that won't go away is so difficult to deal with. It may be heartburn or it could be acid reflux. The two work in very similar ways. Most people turn to prescription medicine for a cure for these problems, but the truth is there are plenty of side effects with those as well. The best way to go about treating the symptom is to find a natural heartburn remedy that gets at the root cause and allows a person to get on with their life.

Papaya Enzymes

Papaya digestive enzymes contain papain and can be effective for the relief of symptoms of heartburn or acid reflux. Papaya enzymes are the simplest and cheapest way to try to relieve heartburn symptoms. Papaya enzymes are available at almost all health food stores and are very affordable. Chew a couple of these after each meal and reap the benefits of simple heartburn relief.

Dietary Changes

There is no doubt that diet plays a role in acid reflux and heartburn problems. Those who suffer from these symptoms must adjust their diet in several ways. The first thing that must be done is to avoid foods that trigger heartburn. Some of the main foods that do this are: peppermint, greasy foods, chocolate, alcoholic beverages, and tomatoes. Secondly, you'll need to start eating smaller portions of food at time. It is much better to eat often and eat smaller amounts than vice versa. Lastly, at the end of each day, make sure you do not eat for at least 2 hours prior to lying down. Lying down on a full stomach is a definite cause of heartburn.

Aloe Vera Juice

Aloe vera is extremely good for your body in general, and the stomach is no different. Drinking about 1/4 cup of Aloe Vera Juice prior to meals will help your esophagus and the lining of your stomach when you are digesting your food. Just as aloe vera soothes the skin from a burn, it can also soothe your stomach. Aloe vera should not be used by pregnant women, but other than that it is a very safe herb for healing.

Chewable DGL

DGL is short for deglycyrrhizinated licorice, which is a very useful in treating symptoms of acid reflux or heartburn. The chewable DGL works to help with mucosal support for the lining of the stomach, which is a real problem for people with these symptoms. The great news is that DGL is very safe and is widely available in almost any major store.

Natural Heartburn Relief is Possible

For some things, home remedies are just not the answer, but home remedies for heartburn are out there and available for everyone to try. Remember that taking medications that have long-term side effects can be both expensive and harmful to a person's health. Keeping your mind open and looking for natural heartburn cures is the way to go!

I discovered that my heartburn was not a result of too much stomach acid, but rather I had too little. So I took hydrochloric acid tablets, and my heartburn disappeared. I later read the explanation for this in Jonathan Wright's book, Your Stomach, which also discusses some of the natural remedies you mention in your article.
